Welcome to the USS America Carrier Veterans Assocation
  • 08 Nov 2020 6:25 PM | David Kenney (Administrator)

11/09/2020: UPDATE: For those who attempted to donate earlier, the form has been fixed. We apologize for the inconvenience.

While the USS America Carrier Veteran’s Assoc. Inc. (CVA) realizes the hardships, everyone has endured this year, we cannot forget the children of Brookwood Elementary School.

Each year since the CVA was incorporated in 1997, we have been a proud supporter of Brookwood. We just sent funds to be used to supply groceries to several families who otherwise would be not able to afford a Thanksgiving dinner.

As most of you already know, at this time of year we ask the members of the CVA and any former crewmembers, to join in and donate to the Brookwood Xmas Drive. Last year you, the crew of America, donated over $2500. We know this year saw a lot of hardship for all of us, imagine how difficult it must be for the families of Brookwood who were struggling before the virus.

Please help make this Xmas a little brighter.

    You can donate at www.ussamerica.org/CVA-Donation
under “Donation category”, select Brookwood School Xmas Drive

Or you can make out your check or money order to USS America Carrier Veterans Assoc. Inc.
    And mail it to:

Many may have already noticed the new look and feel of our website. We hope that you'll find it easier to navigate. Some changes to note:

    1) Drop down menu is now on the right vice the left. Just mouse over the elipsis (...) on the right of the top bar and the drop down will pop up.

    2) Color blocks and menus are cleaner and more in line with current website standards.

    3) Allows us a better support experience from our hosting company, Wild Apricot.

    4) New page header with hull number and a "navy steel" background motif.

We'll continue to work page by page to make improvements along the way to the look/feel/style to make it more appealing and hopefully easier to find things.

    Regards,

    DJ Kenney

    CVA - Vice President

In recent weeks our country has been fighting a battle with the Coronavirus (COVID19). We have all been affected in one way or another. Between the closing of schools, restaurants, bars and gyms, to the run on toilet paper and food, listening every day to the amount of new cases climbing as the testing increases, the uncertainty of where this is headed and who will be sick next. And of course, the increasing numbers of fatalities. Whether or not we wanted it to, it has changed our lives. It has put a tremendous burden on all of us and left us with a feeling of uncertainty. Everyday life has changed dramatically and has limited our ability to make any plans.

The Board of Directors of the USS America Carrier Veteran’s Association (CVA) have a responsibility to its members. We understand that you cannot make any plans right now for the future, not knowing what effect this crisis will have in the long term.

So, the CVA has decided to get out in front of this and is Postponing Reunion 2020.

This was not an easy decision to make. A lot of thought went into it, with a lot of discussion and email contact within the board of directors, hotel and tour companies. It was decided it was in the best interest of the membership and the CVA to postpone the reunion for at least one year. Our hope is that will be ample time for our government and other officials around the world to have in place controls to maintain the health of all of us on this planet.

The reunion will still be in Warwick, RI. At the Crowne Plaza. Most likely in Sept. 2021.

We had a few registrations online and those members will be receiving refunds. If you have already mailed in a registration form and payment, the check will be returned to you. We do not know when we will set an exact date for the reunion, but until then please stay healthy.

    Tom Tramantano

    President

    A word from our Chaplin

    Shipmates,

As you are aware our country is going through a very trying time right now,

and it’s a time to be united and strong!

For 31 years we took our beloved USS AMERICA, callsign Courage, all over the

world and during those years we sailed into harm’s way many times.  As always

we came through those times since we had a great ship and we worked as

shipmates to get the job done.  Now we must do the same thing for our

country, by staying strong and healthy for our families.

So, my prayers for you are to stay courageous, strong, healthy and positive

and we will bring our “AMERICA” back!

Until our next reunion, GOD Bless you and your families!

    Rich Fleischer, Chaplin
