From the President....
The Covid 19 pandemic has certainly affected all of us. If nothing else, it has kept this reunion in limbo for two years. While most of the information below is the same as we sent you for a planned reunion in 2020, there have been some changes, and improvements, for Reunion 2022 (Sept. 20-24, 2022).
We are still at the Crowne Plaza, Providence-Warwick Rhode Island. Our rate is $119 per night. The rate is good from Sept. 17 thru Sept. 27th for those of you who might want to arrive early or stay afterwards. Room rate includes a buffet breakfast each morning (Wednesday – Saturday) in the Hospitality Room. Breakfast coupons will be provided at check in for days when the Hospitality Room is not available. Also, as a guest at the hotel, you will receive a 20% discount in the hotel restaurant and lounge.
The Hotel does supply a shuttle service to and from T.F. Green International Airport, as well as to restaurants, shopping, and attractions within 3 miles of the hotel. There's also an indoor pool, fitness center, and a business center.
Tuesday, as always, will be check-in/registration with a Welcome to Rhode Island Clambake in the evening at 6:00 p.m.
Wednesday, we will be boarding buses at 10:00 a.m. and heading off to Massachusetts to Battleship Cove. After our memorial ser- vice you will have time to tour the Battleship Massachusetts, the USS Joseph P. Kennedy and the USS Lionfish. If you don’t wish to tour the ships you can board the bus and head to the Villages for some shopping. A boxed lunch from Panera Bread will be provided to all on this excursion before returning to the hotel at appr. 1:30 p.m. *NOTE: Handicap accessibility onboard the ships is very limited. One would be able to access the museum and the main deck of the Massachusetts for the Memorial, but there is no handicapped access to below decks.
Thursday, we leave the hotel at 9:00 a.m. and head to Boston. Our first stop will be the USS Constitution. We will then head to The Eataly where you can have lunch on your own before we take a driving tour of Boston (including Bunker Hill, the Freedom Trail, Harvard and more.) Afterwards we will take a tour of Fenway Park. Finally, we will stop at Quincy Market for dinner on your own before heading back to the hotel. This will be a long and very eventful day, returning to the hotel appr. 8:00 p.m.
Friday, starting at 10:00 a.m., we will hold our general meeting which is open to all CVA members. Then a free day to see the sites on your own. At 6:00 p.m., it is time for our Banquet. Please remember while our banquet is not a formal affair, you are expected to dress appropriately (casual business attire or jacket and tie. No shorts, tee shirts etc. please).
Saturday, we will go on an Italian Experience. Leaving the hotel at 11:30 a.m., our first stop will be a walking tour of Italian cafes, Markets, and bakeries in RI’s Little Italy. (all locations are within a very short walking distance of each other) Then at 1:45 p.m. half of the group (Group 1) will take a gondola ride down the Providence River, while the other half (Group 2) goes to Brown University and scenic overlook. At 2:15 p.m, the groups will switch with Group 2 going on the gondola ride and Group 1 will go to Brown University. We will return to the hotel at approximately 3:00 p.m.
Registration: You can mail in the attached registration form with your payment or register at the CVA’s web site www.ussamerica.org and pay by credit card. All who register are required to fill out and sign the Release of Liability on the registration form.

Call to Action...
As we approach our 2022 reunion, it’s hard to believe that it’s been 24 years since the first reunion was held in 1998 in Tysons Corner, VA. Since the inception of the CVA, our Board of Directors have strived to keep the memory of our valiant AMERICA alive through our website, ships store, supporting worthy causes like the Brookwood School and connecting our fellow shipmates through biennial reunions. Our mission has been to foster camaraderie among our members and build our organization through this connection.
During the past 24 years, the Board of Directors has essentially comprised of the same core group of dedicated shipmates providing these services. Most of use served on AMERICA before 1980. The vitality of any command or organization comes from positive change that flow in from new personnel with fresh perspective. With that in mind, we are seeking your help.
To sustain the vitality of CVA, we are actively recruiting members to step up and be part of leading our organization. The time commitment is relatively small but the dividends it pays back are substantial by keeping CVA sailing well into the future. Our meetings are generally quarterly and thanks to technology most are conducted via Zoom calls. This means it doesn’t matter where you reside, you can be a part of our team. We have several positions opening up that we’ll need to fill during our 2022 General Business Meeting, so we are asking for volunteers to help continue our mission!
If you have any questions about the positions, what’s required or are interested in learning more about how you can help CVA, please contact the CVA President, Tom Tramantano at firstname.lastname@example.org or Vice President, Dave Kenney at email@example.com
Remember, our ship served over 3 decades with thousands of sailors crossing her decks and keeping her “battle ready” all along the way. Will you be part of that “new crew” that keeps us serving our members?

Your Board of Directors and I are looking forward to seeing you in Rhode Island, in September.
